CONCEPT
Simplify the large and comprehensive papaspilar.com and distill down the content and resources to what a mobile user would need.
Inspiration came from field note handbooks which match the adventurous tone of the brand. Additionally, field notes are often used as a companion piece to more in-depth research reports, and this rationale paired nicely with how we saw the mobile site and desktop site working together.
UX & STRATEGY
Our use cases told us what people were looking for on a mobile device, and it added up to three of the W’s — Who, What, Where.
We wanted the mobile site to feel light and fresh, it doesn’t overwhelm you but clearly indicates what you can accomplish on it. If you want to learn more about who we are, what we make and what you can do with it, or where to get it — it’s simply 1 click away.
DESIGN & CRAFT
Finding the balance between the brand’s look and feel from the desktop site while coming up with something new and unique for mobile users.
The desktop site had been designed much earlier and was a large narrative storytelling platform, it was not responsive and didn’t translate well to mobile. The challenge was to create a mobile companion piece for the desktop that could give you the necessary bite-sized chunks of information users on the go needed. Because the brand is heavily focused on the spirit of adventurers and the outdoors, the colors and tone match that aesthetic, and our attempt at creating a simplified field notes shines through.
